The BSHS has been a proud part of the Bonita Springs community for over 30 years.

Our mission is to Preserve, Protect and Promote the rich cultural heritage of Bonita Springs.

You may know us best for our work regarding preservation efforts at the McSwain Home or the Goodbread Grocery (Dixie Moon), or visiting the Liles Hotel in Riverside Park, or from attending one of our many education programs. Or, you may have attended one of our traditional events like the Fish Fry, Society Luncheon, or the Mayor of Survey.

Besides promoting preservation, we own two of our own historic properties: The first was purchased in 1996 and is the 1930 Casner Historic Home on South Riverside Drive which serves as our headquarters and as a period museum. The second is the 1915 McSwain Historic Home on Old US41, which upon completion, will serve as a gallery, event space and a "front door" to our community.

At the Liles Hotel History Center in Riverside Park, the Society provides visitors with a complimentary resource library, exhibits, local history displays, and friendly docents. Docent tours are available at the Liles Hotel and at the Casner Home. Contact us to schedule your group.

From the fall and into the spring we host a wide variety of history programs and special walking tours - this past season. We featured presentations with topics ranging from the Calusa to the Tamiami Trail. Our programs and our tours often fill quickly with 100 to over 200 attendees.
